Next Generation Computer ? 次世代コンピュータ?

本日のTBS の「夢の扉」に小池英樹教授が出演していました。彼はキーボード・マウス以外のコンピューターへの入力装置を研究しているようです。この研究を番組は”次世代コンピュータ”と称しています。いや・・・それは違いますよね。コンピューターってのは処理装置とその周辺機器であって、教授の研究内容は人間とコンピューターのやり取りを担当する部分である”ユーザインターフェース(UI)”というものです。

メディアなのだから言葉使いや表現方法はもっと神経を使ったほうが良いかと思います。信用されなくなりますよ。

学者のUI研究で思い出したのが MIT メディアラボの石井裕さんの “タンジブル（触る事ができる）”というテーマです。

でも石井さんも小池さんもUIで大事な部分には触れていません。それは文字入力です。文字入力方法を解決しないと、いつまで経っても実用に耐えうるUIにはならないのではないでしょうか？

Professor Hideki Koike made a appearance in TBS TV program “Door of Dream” today. He seems to study the input device of computer other than keyboard or mouse. This program dubbed his study “Next Generation Computer”. Wait a minute. It’s not right expression. A computer is device which has a processor and something which interact processor and other device. His study should be called as “User Interface” not “computer”.

Mass Media should use words carefully. Otherwise people are likely to distrust it.

I remember one thing as to the UI study of scholar that was theme “Tangible” studied by Prof Hiroshi Ishii at MIT Media Labo.

But I think that Prof Koike and Ishii avoid telling one important concern. That is “Text Input”. It is crucial part of UI. Except “Text Input” functionality, it won’t be enhanced to practical one.
